So, my writing muscle has awoken and since I opened my eyes this morning I've been looking forward to this point in my day, where I sit down and write the next blog post. It's like an addiction to me, so again I have no idea why I stopped in the first place, but I'm back and that's the main thing!
Now I'd like to firstly thank the 146 of you that have read yesterdays blog already, that's pretty neat! I hope you weren't too disappointed though as it was a potentially boring read. So this begs the question 'what shall I write about today to keep you hooked?' and my conclusion is that before I start on an array of various topics over the next 29 days, I need to do a super quick whirlwind catch-up from when I last properly blogged, which was November 2011 when my Daughter was just three months old...
Wow, where has the time gone for starters? No longer three months old but three months away from starting Primary School!! She'll be the baby of the class though as she turns 4 at the very end of August but by all accounts is more than ready to start. She's three going on thirteen, if not thirty! She's a cheeky thing and very independent (goodness know's where she gets that from?!), she has to make her own breakfast and her own packed lunch for nursery, I am definitely not allowed to pick her clothes, let alone help get her dressed. In fact, I'm not entirely sure why she needs me at all? Oh yes, my hair! She is obsessed with twiddling my hair. Phew, I'm good for something at least!
It's been a mixture of good times and a lot of hard work over the past four years. With both James and I building our individual businesses as well as managing our rental properties, oh and of course moving house! At times it's felt like we'd potentially bitten off more than we could chew, but you've heard me say it before and that's that I'm pretty sure I wasn't put on this earth for an average life so I'm not prepared to settle for one anytime soon. I had no idea quite how tough it would be to run my business with a baby and then toddler, and without a massive amount of childcare options we used a childminder and then nursery / preschool pretty early on and for several days a week. Despite feeling bad about this, I'm sure this has helped with her confidence though, as aside from a few clingy days since we've moved she's a sociable thing and at times maybe a little too sure of herself with that strong head on her shoulders (oh dear, how will I cope when she's 13?!!).
My only regret is not having as much playtime with the little one as I should have and I'm already on the road to change this. I have plans afoot to push my business in a slightly different direction in the coming year and also two other sideline businesses that will be easier to run as a Mum, one that my Daughter will probably be able to actually work on with me over the years. So it's safe to say I'm as determined and motivated as ever to do things right with my priority being family time over everything. If I can create a business that incorporates the people I love, then as far as I'm concerned I've won the big prize!
Although I've mentioned hard work a fair bit we've also made sure we squeezed in some fun, challenges and travels together. James and I defeated the National Three Peaks Challenge in 2013 with a fabulous team of nearly 30, to raise money for ACC research in memory of our lovely friend Victoria, who sadly passed away in Jan 2013 as a result of this aggressive Cancer. This was one of many fundraisers, including The Race for Life, many half marathons (James not me!) and several muddy race type things including the big one 'Tough Mudder' (again James not me!). As you can see Victoria was someone that inspired us to do big these things and we'll definitely continue doing them with her in our minds.
Travel wise in our little party of three we've been to Sitges in Spain to stay with friends when the girly was about 7 months old. She loved the Tapas, in particular the calamari!! (the joys of Baby Led Weaning!!). Next we spent a week in Croatia with my Brother and his partner when she was just over a year and since then we've travelled around Morocco for about 12 days and spent two weeks in Cape Verde. Next trip is the biggie though... 18 nights backpacking around Sri Lanka in August this year, as a special treat before we're handcuffed to the school term time holiday rules!! (That is going to hit me hard!) It's not quite the three countries a year that we used to hit but not bad considering how much else we've had going on... My ultimate goal is to spend the majority of the Summer holidays travelling so that we can have some really decent quality time together. This isn't too tough for me with my business as I can work from anywhere but for James and his building business it's not so easy. Note to self, teach him more about social media!!
So, I think this is enough for today's post before I bore you silly. I'd love to hear from those of you reading though so please leave a comment below and let me know what you've been up to over the past three and a half years. What have been your highlights and what are your plans or goals for the next three?
