I was hoping to find an easy blog post idea today and one idea was to type up an entry from one of my teenage diaries as a bit of fun, however having flicked through my 1997 diary for the past 15 minutes I've decided that this is absolutely not a good idea! I was 16 and each entry is either crude, boring or contains embarrassing information or things that are likely to get me into trouble! Now, I'm not sure whether the best thing for these diaries might actually be to burn them!! Can anyone else relate to this?
The big question in my head now is do I really ever want anyone else to read them? Probably not!! However, there is some funny stuff I came across that made me smile, the main highlight was where apparently I was woken one Sunday morning by my Sister Yazmin stuffing smarties into my mouth. She would have been two at the time so I suppose it's a perfectly normal and pretty generous thing for her to have been doing, after all she could have just eaten them herself!
These are the types of memories I want to keep, not so much the stories about me sneaking off for cigarettes or teenage love angst stories over what seemed to be a different person every week! Oh dear!! I also seemed to like to list the things that I bought and in some cases how much I paid for them. 2 bottles of Lucozade, a box of tissues for Mum and Bryan (who were apparently ill at the time), a packet of lockets (presumably for before mentioned ill parents?) chicken burgers (something I seemed to eat a lot of in 1997 by all accounts!). Why I felt the need to record this I do not know, surely I should have been revising for exams or something!
My diaries did get a bit more interesting as I got a few years older and I actually kept a daily account of my travels in Australia (1999-2000) and then through University, as well note pads full of poetry that I used to write in those days, usually with candles lit and music blasting to set the mood. Something else I'm not sure I'll ever share. Wow, I forgot about my teenage mind! So deep for someone so young but at least a step up from the 1997 diary entries.
I'm not really sure where I'm going with this post, other than bringing it to a close so that I can sort dinner out and prepare for an early night after a few late ones over the weekend! 4am after the Bar Trail last night, hmmm so much for coming home at 11! Good night though and some super Salsa dancing in the Tequila bar by my Sister. It didn't take her long to learn from the South Americans in there happily showing her the ropes! Very impressive moves, especially after consuming a fair amount of Norwich's alcohol over the previous 7 hours! Some miles away from the smarties episode 18 years ago although those days still seem like yesterday! Time moves so fast, it scares me sometimes!
