With our Charity Bar Trail event on this evening I must write today's blog whilst I remember and before it's too late, as I'm very conscious that I must not fail this thirty day challenge! If you know me then you'll know I really hate to fail, so in most cases I try to rule it out as an option!!
I'm almost half way through this particular challenge now and I'm wondering how many people make it to the end and then just stop or slip back to weekly posts or even less regular... My guess is that if you make it to the end of the challenge you will have actually created yourself a healthy little daily writing habit. I'll be really happy if that's the end result of this for me and that I have managed to squeeze in time every day to write and can continue to do so. The other huge positive will be if I can maintain my regular 200+ daily readers throughout the thirty days. The question that still remains though is 'can I hold your interest with my totally random themed posts?'
Last nights story may have been slightly off kilter with the addition of five other authors, but hopefully it added an interesting dimension or gave you an insight into the sense of humour that me and my family have (yes it's safe to say that I'm one of a crazy breed). Reading it back this morning made me chuckle and wonder what you were all thinking when you read it. Hopefully you haven't unsubscribed from the blog since!!
Ok let's cut to the chase of today's theme, one of my pet hates... people who profess to be bored! Why
and how? I heard a great phrase once that was used as a
come back to someone who claimed to be bored, 'You're not bored, you're boring!' - I absolutely love this! It's so true. How can anyone with all that we have at our fingertips ever be bored? Do we not have more to occupy us today than we've ever had? Is this the problem? Are we spoilt?! I don't know the answers to all this but what I do know is that I will never ever have the time to be bored! Life is so damn short and there is so much to fit in! There's not a second that goes by where I'm not doing or planning something and then there's all the other things to get to!! So for most people, life is split like this - working and not working / spending time with people you love and there's absolutely no reason you should be bored during any of this time. It's you're life so love it!
Let's split it down so we can talk about these two areas of life and what you could do to make them more fun...
Work - this isn't just about the physical daily grind, this can be about doing something you love, planning, goal setting, aspiring to do more, networking, being creative, making an effort to learn more about the people you work with, not just meeting deadlines or targets but smashing them! Wow, now work suddenly seems more inviting doesn't it?!
Time with those you love - well now the World is your oyster! Sometimes mid-week may seem chaotic and like you're waking, feeding people, eating, showering, getting dressed and getting others dressed, doing chores, going to work, putting people to bed and repeat. No, no, no, don't get complacent, this time is precious and these people you're spending most time with are the people you 'want to be with' so make this mundane stuff fun. It's the little things in this scenario; get up half an hour earlier so there's no screaming or dragging people out of the door to be at school or work on time, play music to set the mood first thing, bunny hop to the bathroom just because, make pancakes together on a Tuesday rather than just at the weekend, make getting dressed into a family race (everyone loves a bit of friendly competition), skip and / or sing on your way to school, get everyone involved in making dinner, play Q&A games at meal time to find out what everyone's been up to, make up stories, laugh everyday, smile every minute. Why wouldn't we do all this and why can't you? No excuses people!
Then there's those that are bored in the evenings, bored at the weekends, bored whenever they're not being entertained. Is this because they are mind numbingly flicking through social media feeds, not finding anything of interest or anything new and then stating that they're bored. Bored? Bored because you haven't moved your backside off of the sofa more like! Not only does the internet offer enough information and ideas to keep us all busier than we could ever manage but there's a great outdoors beyond your front door. It's always been there and guess what half the stuff to do is free so don't give me that 'but i can't afford it' line!!
Look at the stars, eat your meals sitting on a rug in the garden, watch the wildlife, get up and watch the sunrise, take a walk at sunset, photograph the moon, do some gardening, plant a tree and watch it grow, get some binoculars to spot the birds in the garden and beyond, draw what you see, start a blog or write a diary, write letters to people you know but don't see very often, try a new restaurant for the first time, eat different foods, drive somewhere you've never been before, go for a jog or a run, visit your nearest beach and swim in the sea, do something thoughtful for someone in need, check on neighbours who live by themselves, plan some travels, work out a savings plan, visit your local library and take some books out, find a new hobby, host a dinner party, call someone you haven't spoken to for a while (on your actual phone), plan a charity event, go fishing, make smoothies, bake a cake, go Geocaching, do something, do anything, just DON'T BE BORING!!
So, what are your plans this weekend? I'd love to hear all about them...
