International Mud Day! (Day 22)

Monday, is fast becoming one of my favourite days. Firstly because it's my Mummy day and secondly because we go to Forest School in the mornings, which is run by The Outrageous Nature Company - a wonderful team of people who run not for profit outdoors events in Norfolk and not just for kids you should know! When we arrived this morning, all bubbly and excited for some fun in the sun (despite the little ones new cough and runny nose that has appeared since the weekend), we discovered that today is a very special day (drum roll please!)... International Mud Day of course!!
Now, I know a lot of people get all humpety about 'International what-not days' but when it comes to stuff like this I love it. Why not have a reason to be outdoors and get muddy. Ok there's the argument, which I'm sure all the smart alec's will come out with, that they would have been rolling in the mud anyway (of course you would!) and we don't need a reminder to do this because it's part of our daily lives anyway (of course it is!)... You know those people, the same ones that don't believe in Valentines because they claim to treat their other halves like a prince or princess everyday of the year, but in actual fact they are probably just too tight or lazy to buy a card! Anyway, I mustn't go off on a tangent about this, because the basic point is I love that it was International Mud Day and to celebrate my Daughter and I got prize worthy dirty today!

The Outrageous Nature guys had expanded the mud kitchen in the woods for this mornings session and they had made a little cafe area too, so not surprisingly there was no bug hunting, making things out of clay or hide and seek for my Daughter, no siree!! She would not leave the kitchen and cafe today! It was far too much fun! She made some glorious concoctions with some of the other children and as a lucky guest at the cafe I got to sample mud cupcakes topped with mint, mud pies (obligatory!), mud smoothies with elderflower, mud stew and the most amazing mud chocolate ice cream that actually had the consistency of the real deal! Of course it was all delicious and I left a generous tip!

When we got home my Daughter didn't seem 100% so she curled up on the sofa whilst I hit the garden, keen to clear the area where I want us to build her a mud kitchen (and now cafe!). After about ten minutes though a little person poked her head out of the door and asked if she could join me and in favour of fresh air and warm sunshine to help get rid of the cold more than her being stuck inside I of course called her right out. We got her wheelbarrow and garden tools out alongside mine and she helped me clear some of the plants and weeds ready for me to dig over and level out. In no time at all we had cleared the whole area (which I now wish I had taken a 'before' photo of, as the plants and weeds were about three foot high here and I almost filled the garden wheely bin just with all of this! It looks great now and a fab space for the play area for her. So much more fun than a playhouse and it's a lovely shaded area under a tree so she'll be out of the sun on the extra hot days we've apparently got coming up!

With my enthusiasm brimming (it does that a lot, you may have noticed!) I put a few posts on some Facebook local selling pages to see if anyone has any old utensils, saucepans etc and on the off chance if anyone had an electric cable reel and any logs (for the table and chairs for the new cafe idea) and low and behold two lovely ladies I know have the logs, reel and a set of saucepans! I should have them all tomorrow and my husband being the amazing guy he is (Duracell Bunny I should call him really!) came home from work (where he had been plastering all day), set straight back onto working on our ensuite refurbishment until 7:30pm with a little break to eat his dinner and then spent two hours starting to build an amazing oven and sink unit for the dream mud kitchen, out of pallets and bits and pieces he's ripped out of our bathroom. He is amazing! It already looks fantastic and he thinks he'll have it finished tomorrow evening ready for me to paint, so it looks like come Thursday morning we'll have a bit of a special surprise for our girly! I can't wait for her to see it! She won't want to leave the garden!!

Big shout for International Mud Day, you inspired us to get this done and in one fowl swoop we've made a massive dent in the project! Look forward to showing you all it when we've finished!
